County Commissioners Meeting
December 20, 2004

Personal Minutes Written by Dave Sobota

My apologies to those who check this site regularly but I missed the fist 10 minutes of today’s meeting.Items discussed:

  • Mineral severance tax. This tax would have been on anything coming from a gravel pit, basically. This tax needed to pass on a 2/3 vote it did not. The vote was 5 yes / 5 no.
  • Next vote to approve copier lease for the election office. This passed unanimously.
  • Resolution for naming the bridge that goes over the Harpeth, on route 250, at the Dickson / Cheatam county line. This resolution passed.
  • Special census status report. More work has been done on the special census idea. The mayor has been working with the county clerk to iron out the details of this possible source of revenue. Their estimated cost for Dickson is $25,000 to take this special census. Based on the population of the individual cities in Dickson county, and the number of residence in the rest of the county, the county would have to pay 60% of this $25,000 the cities would pay the rest. The issues are timing and funding. This needs to be launched by the end of January in order for the results to be validated by the end of June. The end of June is a necessary time frame to hit in order for the extra shared dollars to count in the 05 / 06 budget. Further discussion on this item has been delayed to the January 4th meeting. The county officials will use this time to try and find a funding source.
  • The appointment of JD McElhiney to the board of zoning appeals was approved.
  • The appointment of Kyle Ruf to the board of The Dickson Water authority was approved.
  • Several notary appointments were approved. The notaries were mainly suggested / approved by individual county commissioners then approved by all of the commissioners via session vote.
